I’m Sorry, My Smartphone: I can’t Stop Looking Down.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Wronged Objects.”

If your furniture, appliances, and other inanimate objects at home had feelings and emotions, to which item would you owe the biggest apology?

Hi Smartphone,

I’m sorry if I can’t stop looking down. I’m sorry if I’ve been using you like 24/7 nonstop. It seems I can’t get enough of you. Though I don’t have any specific thing to check, I think there’s always something interesting to see so I always have the tendency to look down at you.

I understand why you’ve been acting up a bit bad lately. I know it’s because you haven’t had enough good rest. And by rest, I mean a solid full charged battery. The past days, I’ve been using you quite a lot and been draining your battery life yet not giving you much time to recharge your power. I’ve been cutting your charging time short since I’m always on the go, thus you’re not functioning as good as you’re supposed to. And because I’m having issues with time management, it is you which suffers the most. It’s my fault and I am really sorry.

But you must know that I am not the only one using you. See, I have kids, you know. And you’re aware how kids love gadgets and are keeping up with technology these days. I should mention that a lot of times when I’m trying to give you rest and save your power, my kids are there waiting for the time to take advantage of you. They seem to enjoy your presence and love your features as much as I do. So while I’m taking some time off you so you can relax, my kids are the ones not putting you down. Please don’t think we are abusing you. It’s just that we really really like you so, okay? 🙂

In behalf of my kids, I apologize for our behavior. Even if we’re tired, we can’t seem to rest without you. I just realized that it’s bad not only for both of us to not have enough sleep, but also not good if we’re being too attached with each other. It’s just unhealthy for all of us. From now on, we’ll strive to put you down more often and keep you only for relevant use. Enough of time-wasting apps 📵, I’ll tell my kids to limit your usage. I know it’s going to be a little hard adjusting to detach from you, but we’ll do our best. It’s going to take time but you can count on us for sure.

Again, I’m sorry, my dear smartphone and thank you for all the convenience! Stay smart, okay? 😊

Your biggest fan,

Mommy Rose
