I recently bought an extra fan for our living room in our new apartment. Though it wasn’t really a major purchase, I learned some important things to remember when buying home appliances.
Shopping for home appliances is exciting, but can be overwhelming at times. With many brands to choose from and different features to consider, how do you pick the right one? Let me help you with these helpful tips on buying home appliances.
Buying Home Appliances Tips: 6 Things to Remember Before Making A Major Purchase
Set a clear budget
This is crucial. Before you begin seriously looking at home appliances, determine first how much you can afford to spend comfortably. You don’t want to fall into the trap of finding the perfect one, only to get disappointed of its ridiculous price tag! Your budget will likely have the ultimate say in which appliances you bring home. However, don’t be afraid to spend a little more though for better quality or additional features.
Make a “Preference” checklist
List all the functions, features, and other preference you want – like the brand, energy-saving features, auto settings, required size, ideal resolution, materials used, warranty & refund policies, etc. Keep in mind that these are just your guide, so be flexible. The goal is to purchase a quality product that suits your needs at a reasonable price.
Look beyond the looks
“Looks can be deceiving!” Don’t focus solely on aesthetics. Some appliances are more aesthetically pleasing than others and can give the impression of quality, but these do not necessarily make them more valuable. Instead, check the specific features. Back to your checklist, does it have all that you were looking for? Or does it only look chic but lack the necessary functions?
Keep your family in mind
On top of your checklist, SAFETY (together with comfort & convenience) should always be a priority. If you have young kids at home, consider purchasing a more “child-friendly” appliance. Likewise (if applicable), would grandma or grandpa find it easy to operate?
Do a full in-store inspection
You may have done your research online and have gone through all the list of features, but that shouldn’t be enough to convince you. Once at the store, make a thorough inspection of the product (with the actual stock and not just the one on display) – check for any dents, breaks or other manufacturer defects.
Make sure to ask for a “product testing” and try to use the appliance yourself. Oftentimes, having a “feel” of the item leads to more questions, thus you learn more about a particular function or get to confirm some things you read online. Also, if you can bring someone with you for a second opinion, all the better.
Purchase the appliances where & when they are most affordable
Of course! Nowadays, it’s easy to check and compare prices online. Plus, with the buzz of social media, it’s easier to know if there are upcoming sales or promotion from your favorite brands or stores. So if you don’t urgently need to purchase home appliances, might as well wait for a sale – Clearance Sales, Holiday Sales, or even Special Weekend Sales, before making your big purchase.
If you are on the look out right now, The Metro Appliance Blast 2017 Sale is available until August 31st, in all Metro Stores – Metro Department and Super Metro branches nationwide. It’s a great time to check those appliances on your list! 🙂
