First Paintings [photos]

Painting is one of those activities I’ve been wanting to do with my children, but hesitate knowing that it could be very messy, especially with young kids under five. I was hesitant but I also thought how silly I was to think of such selfish reason.

Why would I deny them to experience this fun and educational activity? Yes, it could get messy, but kids are naturally messy, anyway. So why not let them get creatively messy?! Listen mommy, it’s all for a good cause!!!

Sure enough, my love for creativity and fun win. It always does. Who on earth would not let their kids try painting, really??

Last Sunday, I started introducing my children to painting and we had our first paintings this week. I started off with Zooey. We bought a DIY Painting Kit (age 3+) which had a mini car figurine with a set of  5 paints and a paintbrush. She was so excited to do it and wanted to finish the mandatory “let’s take your picture first, hold this and smile” part quickly. Hahaha You know photos are a must these days, right? Oh moms! LOL

This week, I printed out a few cartoon designs as a surprise! This time we let Zion join in and I tried to take better photos, because THINGS GOT MORE SERIOUS! 😀 Download these FREE Painting Printables here.

Painting is a really fun color activity and a pretty challenging one for a first-time young painter. First, I taught Zooey the basics on brush strokes, just a simple up-down and right-to-left patterns. Then guided her on tracing the edges using Q-tips (cotton buds), and finally, we had color mixing. She was thrilled to know that it’s possible to create different shades through mixing two or more paints.

She also painted Hello Kitty – hmmm with a totally different color choice. (Anyone said you have to always use pink for Hello Kitty?)

..and a darker Tinkerbell. (She must have been enjoying the summer sunshine a little too much, wachathink? LOL)

Lastly, I tried painting an ice cream, which got Zooey question my poor choice of colors HAHA (I know, I suck in the Art department.)

We just did very few paintings for now, as we had very little colors left. Most of the paint were colored on tables, walls, chairs, scratch papers, hands, etc.. See? My instincts were right. They were messy. But there’s nothing more I love now than these messy artworks! 🙂

Have your children painted your bed yet? Share any crazy mess in the comments below! 😉

I think we just bought the same paint perhaps at the same store, too, Mommy Rose. I am itching to have more painting/crafting sessions with my daughter. I really should resolve to make more time to do that, no?

True! Even with a simple coloring activity, their imagination and creativity are well honed.

I hope so, that'll be great! I don't remember painting when I was a kid, that might explain my handwriting. Hahaha

Oh so you bought a good deal, right? It was pretty cheap, though not the best painting kit in the market, but totally good enough for the kids, who don't mind about quality. Haha Yes, I think you should, you'll both love it! To do more painting or have any craft session with the kids is one of my goals for the summer really, while I am not committed to any full-time work yet! 🙂

Nice, painting early I think will help develop their hands to better penmanship and nice school projects in the future, LOL 🙂

so nostalgic momma. I remember, when I was a kid, my mom used to buy me lots of painting materials. I enjoyed painting most especially during rainy season.

I like making my kids paint when I'm working. Beats having them play with gadgets or watch TV. 🙂

My MMs favorite activity too. She's getting dirty but oh well they learned from it. Isn't it great that their ideas at a very young age would come out through this art activity? So wow…
